Bahrain among world’s top aluminium producers in 2024

Bahrain was among the world’s 10 largest aluminium producers in 2024, turning out 1.6 million metric tonnes.
The figure was close to the previous year’s total.
Aluminium remains one of the kingdom’s main exports, with shipments heading to the US and elsewhere bringing in $3 billion in 2023.
A report by InvestingNews. com put global output at 72 million metric tonnes for 2024, up from 70 million the year before.
Second-biggest supplier
The UAE, which produced 2.7 million metric tonnes of aluminium and 2.4 million metric tonnes of alumina, was responsible for 8 per cent of American imports, making it the second-biggest supplier to the US.
China led the world in aluminium production, turning out 43 million metric tonnes, which made up 60 per cent of the total. Its alumina production reached 84 million metric tonnes.
India followed with 4.2 million metric tonnes, while Russia’s total climbed slightly to 3.8 million from 3.7 million in 2023.

Producers raised their output in advance of new American trade duties, shifting supply routes.
Chinese metal accounted for just 3 per cent of US imports in 2024.
The Biden administration lifted tariffs on Chinese aluminium to 25 per cent, and in February 2025, the Trump administration added a further 10 per cent charge on all goods from China.
