Kamal bin Ahmed Mohammed, President of the Electricity and Water Authority (EWA), has announced the successful completion of a solar energy system installation at the Khalifa City water distribution station. The facility is now fully powered by renewable energy, with the capability to export surplus electricity to the national grid.

During an inspection visit to the station, Kamal bin Ahmed highlighted that the initiative is part of EWA’s broader strategy to integrate solar energy systems across its facilities. The Khalifa City station is the eleventh EWA site to be equipped with solar power, reflecting the authority’s commitment to sustainability and energy efficiency.

He reiterated EWA’s dedication to expanding sustainable energy solutions to support clean energy production, promote renewable energy adoption, and contribute to Bahrain’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). These efforts align with the Kingdom’s strategy to diversify energy sources, reduce carbon emissions, and increase the share of renewables in the national energy mix in line with Bahrain Economic Vision 2030.

The newly installed system consists of 2,032 solar panels placed on the station’s underground reservoir rooftops, boasting a maximum production capacity of 1,400 kilowatts of clean electricity. The setup ensures that the station operates entirely on renewable energy. Additionally, the system is equipped with self-cleaning solar panels and integrated monitoring and control technology.

This milestone marks a significant advancement in Bahrain’s environmental and economic sustainability efforts. It reinforces EWA’s commitment to adopting global best practices in renewable energy and strengthens Bahrain’s position as a regional leader in clean energy solutions.
