Three Indian men have been jailed for a month and ordered out of Bahrain after being caught shrimp fishing with banned bottom trawl nets. One of them was also fined BD1,500.

Their boat, nets, and catch were seized.

The Coast Guard spotted the vessel carrying the three men and using the outlawed gear.

When approached, they tried to flee, but patrol officers pursued and stopped them. On board, they found shrimp, a haul of small fish, and the prohibited fishing equipment.

Investistigations

Prosecutors questioned the suspects, who admitted to using the illegal nets. They were held in custody as investigations continued.

Their boat and gear were confiscated, while the catch was sold at auction, with the proceeds deposited accordingly.

The men were later sent to court, where they were sentenced to prison and ordered to leave Bahrain once their sentences were served.
