Thomas Tuchel’s tenure as England’s head coach is off to an ideal start. With two games played, two wins recorded, and five goals scored without reply, the German manager has quickly made his mark.

England followed up their 2-0 victory over Albania with a convincing 3-0 win against Latvia at Wembley on Monday. While neither performance was flawless, Tuchel’s early decisions have paid off.

On Friday, he handed Arsenal’s 18-year-old Myles Lewis-Skelly his debut, and the youngster rewarded him with a goal. Against Latvia, Tuchel’s tweaks to the lineup proved effective once again—Reece James, making his first England start since 2022, fired home a stunning free kick to open the scoring, while substitute Eberechi Eze netted his first international goal.

With England looking comfortable at the top of Group K, their path to the 2026 World Cup appears smooth. By then, it will have been 60 years since their last major trophy—Tuchel will be hoping to end that long wait.
