Alert as road accidents and traffic offences on the rise

A recent report from the Ministry of Interior shows a rise in road accidents and traffic offences across Bahrain during January 2025.
Severe injuries were recorded in 47 per cent of all accidents, while 42 per cent involved minor injuries.
The remaining 11 per cent ended in death.
Emergency calls
Rescue patrols were busiest responding to emergency calls, which made up 62 per cent of their work, ranging from fires to medical aid and various community services.
Traffic incidents followed at 33 per cent, with security matters making up the remaining 5 per cent.
Of the traffic violations caught, mobile phone use while driving topped the list at 39 per cent.
Jumping red lights came next at 22 per cent.
Illegal parking
Speeding made up 20 per cent, while illegal parking accounted for 13 per cent. Just 1 per cent were fined for not wearing a seatbelt, and 5 per cent for driving with expired registration.
Travel figures through entry points were also included in the data.
King Fahd Causeway remained the busiest route, with a total of 3,286,444 people crossing, 1,633,160 entering Bahrain and 1,653,284 leaving.
At Bahrain International Airport, 488,072 travellers were recorded. Of those, 252,109 arrived and 235,963 departed.
Sea travel saw smaller but steady movement, with 84,056 passengers passing through the ports — 42,016 arrivals and 42,040 departures.
