Capital Governorate committee orders clean-up over stray dogs, waste and dumped vehicles

Urban decay alert

Calls for a sweeping cleanup have been raised after stray dogs, rotting waste and dumped vehicles were found across parts of the Capital Governorate, with a council committee warning that several residential blocks are being left to decay. The Services and Facilities Committee at the Capital Trustees Board uncovered the problems during a recent inspection of the Seventh Constituency, where it found derelict buildings, blocked roads, and broken park equipment.

Block 721 was among the worst affected. Along Roads 2160 and 2173, several abandoned buildings stood empty and exposed. Concerns The committee raised concerns about trespassing and misuse, and urged authorities to step in. Waste was also found piled up in other parts of the same block, including Road 2155 near Building 91 and Road 2185 close to Building 3420. In Block 816, rubbish was spotted along Roads 1601, 1612 and 1622.

The sanitation department has since stepped in to clear the affected sites. Vehicles The committee also noted vehicles left to rust on pavements and in empty plots, many of them blocking access and traffic. Stray dogs were seen roaming the streets. Public parks were also inspected. In Jidd Ali’s first Park, the committee called for a canopy to be fitted over the children’s play area, a new name sign, repainting, and repairs to the perimeter wall to improve privacy for neighbours.

At Jidd Ali’s second park, water was leaking near the bathrooms, several play structures were damaged, and the ground beneath them was worn bare. The committee recommended installing rubber flooring in place of the patchy grass. Extensive repairs Jurdab Park was found in need of more extensive repairs. Fencing and goalposts around the sports pitch were damaged, paving stones near the service buildings were uneven, and several lighting columns needed replacing. The committee suggested switching to solar-powered bulbs and strengthening the park’s main power cable.
