Royal pardon of 630 inmates lauded as a humanitarian gesture

His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa’s decision to pardon 630 inmates has earned widespread praise. The royal pardon includes individuals who have served part of their sentences and others under alternative sentencing.
Ahmed bin Salman Al Musallam, Speaker of the Council of Representatives, described the pardon as a reflection of His Majesty’s humanitarian approach and commitment to justice. He also expressed gratitude for the efforts of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, in supporting the royal vision, enhancing stability, upholding the law, and promoting unity and tolerance. Al Musallam further commended General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, Minister of Interior, along with the Ministry of Justice, Islamic Affairs and Endowments, the Public Prosecution, and all relevant authorities for their contributions to Bahrain’s human rights progress through modern legislation and humane enforcement.
Similarly, Ali bin Saleh Al Saleh, Chairman of the Shura Council, described the royal pardon as a continuation of His Majesty’s dedication to humanitarian values, fostering tolerance, and advancing national and social development. He highlighted that the initiative enhances Bahrain’s human rights record and strengthens its regional and international reputation.
The Chairman also recognised government efforts, led by the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, in promoting human rights programmes that reflect Bahrain’s cultural values. He praised the success of rehabilitation initiatives, including alternative sentencing and open prison programmes, in supporting inmates’ reintegration and encouraging their active participation in society.
