Missed medication, canceled check-ups, and an untreated scalp infection led a judge to grant a mother extra time with her severely disabled daughter, amid claims that her ex-husband had been careless with the child’s fragile health.
The mother, a doctor familiar with her daughter’s condition, initiated urgent legal proceedings after the father allegedly removed their six-year-old from the hospital moments after surgery.
She argued that the child’s medical needs were being neglected, leading to serious complications.
While the court stopped short of transferring full custody to the mother, it extended her weekend visits from Thursday evening to Saturday night, including overnight stays.
Additionally, she will have the child overnight before any scheduled hospital treatments, allowing her to personally oversee medical care.
The couple had divorced under an agreement granting formal custody to the father.
