In a recent interview, Mannar shared insights into her journey in the gaming industry, shedding light on how she successfully blended virtual experiences with real-world landmarks, creating a unique fusion that has captured the imagination of both locals and visitors alike.
What Inspired You to Highlight Bahrain's Landmarks in Gaming?
“I have always been a fan of gaming ever since its inception,” Mannar began. “As a gamer, I began experimenting with creating digital representations of my favorite places, including those in Bahrain. Over time, my skills grew, and I found myself increasingly inspired to use gaming as a tool to highlight the unique features of Bahrain’s architectural and cultural heritage.”
She further explained that after the challenges posed by the global pandemic, she saw an opportunity to share Bahrain's beauty in a digital form, making it accessible to people worldwide. Her exploration led her to develop detailed in-game representations of famous local locations such as Moda Mall, Bahrain Fort, and the city of Manama, allowing players to experience these iconic sites in a whole new light.
Did You Collaborate with Local Businesses to Integrate Real-World Landmarks into Your Designs?
“Yes,” she affirmed. “As I continued working on these gaming projects, I began focusing on well-known restaurants and landmarks within Bahrain. I wanted to bring more attention to our local dining spots, like Hala Café, which had not been highlighted in global gaming landscapes. With the help of tools like Google Earth, I was able to virtually explore these places from every angle, ensuring that the digital representations were as authentic as possible.”
What Did You Learn from Your Work with Local Businesses and Landmarks?
Mannar shared that her experience with local businesses taught her the importance of blending the modern world with traditional design in a way that resonated with both local and international audiences. “Through this journey, I had the chance to explore Islamic architecture and the intricate details of traditional designs. Each project helped me refine my approach to creating virtual worlds that were deeply connected to the real world,” she said.
What’s the Longest Project You’ve Worked On?
“One of the longest projects I worked on was the ‘Round the World’ exhibition,” she recalled. “It was an extensive project that required me to blend detailed models and real-life imagery to showcase landmarks from around the globe. While the project timeline was long, it was a rewarding experience that pushed me to think creatively about how I could bring the world’s wonders to a virtual space.”
Looking Ahead: Future Goals in Gaming and Architecture
Mannar emphasized that her journey in the gaming industry has always been about more than just passion—it has been a way to showcase and celebrate Bahrain’s rich cultural heritage. As she continues to develop new projects, she remains focused on creating even more immersive and innovative virtual experiences that highlight both modern and traditional elements of Bahraini life.
With her continued success, Mannar is determined to push the boundaries of gaming in Bahrain, offering future generations the chance to experience the kingdom's landmarks in new and exciting ways.
