Diplomatic Talks in Washington: Bahrain and U.S. Eye Stronger Economic and Security Ties

Bahrain’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, H.E. Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani, met with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio in Washington today. The meeting was attended by Sheikh Abdullah bin Rashid Al Khalifa, Bahrain’s Ambassador to the United States.

During the meeting, Dr. Al Zayani congratulated Secretary Rubio on his appointment and wished him success in his role. He reaffirmed Bahrain’s commitment to strengthening the long-standing friendship and strategic partnership between the two nations. The discussions emphasized the shared efforts to enhance bilateral cooperation across various sectors, including the Free Trade Agreement and the Security Integration and Comprehensive Prosperity Agreement.

Dr. Al Zayani praised the U.S. administration, under President Donald Trump’s leadership, for its dedication to global peace efforts and conflict resolution. He commended U.S. efforts in achieving a ceasefire in Gaza, securing the release of hostages and detainees, and working toward ending the war in Ukraine. Bahrain, he affirmed, supports these initiatives, which contribute to global security and stability.

For his part, Secretary Rubio welcomed Dr. Al Zayani to Washington and lauded the strong ties between Bahrain and the United States. He reiterated the U.S. commitment to deepening the historic relationship between the two nations and emphasized the importance of strengthening cooperation, coordination, and consultation on issues that serve mutual interests. He highlighted the shared objective of enhancing regional security, stability, and economic collaboration.

The meeting also addressed political, economic, security, and developmental ties between the two countries. Both sides explored avenues to expand bilateral cooperation in ways that align with their mutual aspirations. Additionally, discussions covered key regional and international issues of common interest, including developments in Gaza, Lebanon, Syria, and Yemen, as well as their implications for regional security, stability, and humanitarian conditions.

The meeting was also attended by Ambassador Talal Abdul-Salam Al Ansari, Director General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Saeed Abdulkhaleq, Head of Coordination and Follow-up Affairs, and the accompanying delegation.
