A man who stormed into a woman’s flat with a metal rod, claimed he was from a security agency, and made off with her car and clothes, is due to hear the result of his appeal on 28 April.
The 34-year-old was handed a five-year jail sentence by the Lower Criminal Court after being found guilty of breaking into the home, threatening those inside, and taking a vehicle without permission.
He later returned the car, though the front grille was missing.
He denied the charges in court, claiming the woman had agreed to let him use the car.
According to the Public Prosecution, the man entered the flat uninvited, carrying a piece of iron, and claimed to be a security officer.
The woman, 45, said she was leaving the building when he pushed his way inside. She shouted at him to get out. He refused.
Two others then arrived. The man raised the rod, tried to hit them, and ordered them into one of the rooms. They shut the door and waited.
Once he left, they realised he had taken clothes belonging to one of them and had driven off with the woman’s car.
He brought it back two days later, but the grille at the front was missing.
