Proposal to extend truck ban beyond 6–8am window

A proposal to reschedule truck access to public roads outside the current 6am to 8am restriction window will go to a vote in Parliament on Tuesday.
MPs Lulwa Al Rumaihi, Muneer Seroor and Bader Al Tamimi are calling on the government to revise the permitted hours for lorry movement, saying the existing schedule contributes to traffic congestion and accidents during peak times.
They argue that several roads cannot handle the volume of cars and trucks during those hours, and believe updated timings would ease pressure and reduce delays for motorists.
The Interior Ministry, however, has raised objections. In its written opinion, it said the 6am to 8am restriction already meets its goal of easing traffic and warned that extending it could disrupt the commercial transport of goods and harm economic activity.
