A wedding decorator who accepted BD2,000 to book a hotel hall for a customer’s wedding but failed to do so has been ordered to return the money and pay damages.
A civil court heard that the man had hired the decor business to organise a wedding for 150 guests at a wedding venue.
The date was agreed, the money was paid, and the expectation was that the booking had been made.
It had not. When the customer contacted the hotel to confirm the arrangements, he was told no reservation existed. No booking. No record.
The decorator offered no explanation.
The customer was forced to find an alternative venue at short notice. When his efforts to retrieve the payment led nowhere, he turned to the courts.
The judge annulled the contract, ordered the return of the BD2,000, and added BD300 in compensation for the emotional distress.
