A 25 per cent jump in the value of government tenders pushed the Tender Board’s total awards beyond BD2.1 billion in 2024.
The number of tenders and auctions awarded reached 2,032, according to the latest edition of the Official Gazette.
Throughout the year, 1,037 new tenders and auctions were issued. Contractors and suppliers submitted 5,554 bids, a rise of 15 per cent on the previous year. The increase gave public bodies a wider pool of options and helped raise the standard of offers received.
The number of registered suppliers and contractors rose by 9.8 per cent, climbing from 11,423 in 2023 to 12,547.
The board attributed this growth to greater confidence in the electronic system and its role in public spending.
Tenders linked to services and investment accounted for 36.3 per cent of total awards. Construction and engineering consultancy followed at 26.1 per cent, then oil at 19.7 per cent, materials and equipment at 16.5 per cent, and aviation at 1.4 per cent.
Most tenders, 86.9 per cent of the total, were issued through the e-tendering system using the board’s main method.
The share of requests processed within 14 days rose to 98 per cent, up from 90.4 per cent in 2023.
The share of cases resolved within a week reached 85.2 per cent, despite an increase in total volume.
The number of requests climbed by 13.5 per cent to 15,608.
