No one above the law, confirms Al Hammadi

A man who was recently seen in a video clip claiming that he can’t be held accountable by the law as his father is a senior police officer, has been confirmed to be a non-Bahraini and not related to security authorities.

Parliament and Information Affairs Minister and the Official Government Spokesperson Isa bin Abdulrahman Al Hammadi announced this during a press conference that followed yesterday’s weekly Cabinet meeting, adding, “All the people seen in the video were interrogated.”

“There’s nobody above the law in Bahrain. We advice anyone who is subjected to a situation that affects their privacy to file an official complaint,” said the minister.

The video was widely circulated and condemned by Bahraini online community during the past week. It showed two men arguing about what apparently seemed to be a dispute over a parking spot in Central Manama, near Gold City. The incident took place during the recent national day celebrations.

One of the men in the video kept threatening the other that he can’t be sued, as his father is a police officer in Bahrain. The other man also claimed that he worked as a personal guard for a Royal Family member and has more authority than him.

Both of them seemed to be under the influence of alcohol, as alleged by many Bahraini social media users.

It was shown in the video that the man repeated in a non-Arabic accent that his father is an officer in Arabic, saying “baba dabit”. This specific phrase was vastly trending on social networking sites, reaching around 16, 000 tweets in few days.
