Flood-prone roads in West Riffa are among the areas being worked into a new series of road and drainage schemes, the Ministry of Works has confirmed in a written reply to Parliament.
The ministry said it is pressing on with projects designed to keep pace with building and investment around Bahrain.
These works cover street widening, pavement laying, sewer links, and improved water runoff systems.
Properties
In response to a question from MP Dr Ali Al Nuaimi, the ministry noted that around 89 per cent of developed properties in the Southern Governorate are now connected to the sewer network.
In the seventh constituency of the same governorate, that figure reaches nearly full coverage.
Plans are in place to connect the remaining built-up properties.
Order
The order in which areas are tackled depends on factors such as the number of developed plots and how soon construction of the system can begin.
In Riffa, work is being prepared on Road 847.
The scheme will include new pavements, street lighting, a rainwater drainage network, and ducts beneath the surface for future services.
Road signs and direction boards will be added. Another drainage network is planned to solve water build-up in Block 912, which has struggled with pooling during wet spells.
Elsewhere, detailed drawings are now finished for a road widening project in A’ali.
Road 36 will be turned into a dual carriageway with two lanes running each way.
Junctions along the route will also be improved.
In Block 926, work is planned in two phases.
Repairs and surfacing
These cover repairs and surfacing for Road 20 and the neighbouring streets, along with full rebuilding of what lies under the tarmac and the addition of pavements.
The ministry is also drawing up plans for two roads linked to Shaikh Khalifa bin Salman Highway.
One will lead to the housing project at Wadi Al Sail, the other to Wali Al Ahd Highway.
Both will include drainage pipes, speed humps, lighting, utility ducts and signs.
