Fabric soaked in hashish and sent by post to Bahrain was at the centre of a smuggling case now before the courts, with the verdict expected on 29 April.
The defendant, a 32-yearold baker of Asian nationality, is accused of bringing drugs into the country hidden in cloth — an attempt foiled by anti-narcotics officers before the package reached any buyers.
He was arrested on 27 August 2024 at his home, where police found two bags bearing traces of cannabis and seized BD1,516.925 and SAR635 in cash.
Money
Investigators believe the money was earned through drug sales.
According to prosecutors, the man was part of a wider effort to bring narcotic substances into Bahrain.
He is said to have admitted sending a copy of his ID to a contact in his home country, in return for a fee, as part of an arrangement to receive a postal parcel and pass it on to someone else.
Police claim he played a leading role in a group using concealed shipments to avoid detection.
A corporal from the General Directorate of Anti-Narcotics said he received intelligence naming the suspect as the organiser.
