2-yr jail for receiving fund

The Lower Criminal Court has sentenced three defendants to two years in prison for collecting and receiving money without licence as well as being implicated in inciting others to commit the same crime.

According to a statement issued by the Public Prosecution, among the trio is a Gulf national and parliamentary member, ‘who is renowned for his antagonism to Bahrain’ and a Bahraini citizen occupying the position of general secretary of a foreign organisation.

“Investigations have revealed that the first defendant received a phone call from the GCC national MP in the beginning of 2014 when he was in the UK, in which the latter requested a meeting with him.

He later received a phone call from a lady from one of the GCC states and she told him that the MP assigned her to transfer to him some money to distribute them to the families of convicts in riot cases.
