Treason: Hearing adjourned to January 31

The High Criminal Appeals Court has adjourned the appeal hearing of a senior member of Al Wefaq Islamic Society until January 31 next year.

Majeed Milad was sentenced to two years behind bars on grounds of inciting others to break the law. He was arrested after conducting a political symposium, where he urged the attendees to violate the public demonstration laws. The defendant was the head of the Capital Municipal Council for eight years until 2014 when it was scrapped.

The Capital Prosecution said in a statement earlier that the defendant was questioned following a complaint of encouraging to violate the public demonstration laws against him.

“The accused was questioned and confronted with a recording of his remarks before being ordered to remain in police custody pending further investigations,” the statement read, but without identifying him by his name.

“The defendant has been accused of instigating others to break the law,” the Public Prosecution concluded in the statement.
