Passports, birth certificates and ID cards.
How can a child obtain these vital documents if a parent is absent or entangled in legal disputes? Next Tuesday in Parliament, MPs will debate this very issue.
MP Jalal Kadhem, backed by eight other members, will lead the discussion on governmental procedures involving children. They are seeking clarity on how such documents are issued when a father is either unavailable or unable to act due to court proceedings.
Can the mother or another relative step in to obtain these documents on behalf of the child?
The request has been submitted under Article 68(b) of the Constitution and Article 170 of the Council’s internal rulebook.
MPs are also asking whether children can continue to receive public services without disruption in such cases.
The discussion will explore what measures are currently in place to protect the welfare of children when disputes between parents arise.
