Man born in 1959 finally gets birth certificate

It took a while—69 years, to be exact—but a Bahraini man has finally had his birth officially recorded.

Yes, you read that right. A bit unusual, but that's exactly what happened.

Born in 1959, the man had no official documentation to prove his birth. The authorities had no record of him in their books.

When he approached the Information and eGovernment Authority to rectify the situation, they turned him away, stating he needed a court order. That prompted him to take legal action.

Represented by lawyer Zainab Madan, the man presented his case before the Third Minor Civil Court. The court examined the documents submitted, including his passport.

On Wednesday, the court ordered the Information and eGovernment Authority to issue him a birth certificate.

The court also confirmed that the man was born in Manama on December 31, 1959.

In line with legal procedures outlined in a 2000 decree-law, the judge referred the matter to a special committee tasked with handling name and birth record disputes. The committee reviewed his application and gave its approval.

The court accepted the committee’s findings and ruled in favour of the man. He was or- dered to pay the legal costs.
