Bahrain and Hong Kong Forge Strategic Education Partnership to Enhance Programme Quality and Qualifications
The Education and Training Quality Authority (BQA) of Bahrain has signed a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Hong Kong Council for Accreditation of Academic and Vocational Qualifications (HKCAAVQ) aimed at enhancing academic and vocational programme reviews, supporting qualifications frameworks, and advancing global standards in education and training.
The agreement was signed during a ceremony attended by key officials from both bodies. Dr. Maryam Hasan Mustafa, Chief Executive of the BQA, emphasized the Kingdom’s strong commitment to education, driven by the unwavering support of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and the active follow-up by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister.
Dr. Mustafa highlighted Bahrain's ongoing efforts to maintain the quality and competitiveness of its academic and vocational institutions. “This MoU marks a strategic move to establish the foundation for bilateral cooperation and exchange of expertise. It will enhance the quality of education and training in line with international standards, ensuring better learning outcomes and aligning with the needs of the labour market,” she said.
The MoU aims to improve quality review processes, support the mutual recognition of qualifications, and promote the sharing of best practices in accreditation systems. It also seeks to foster innovation through flexible learning pathways and the recognition of prior learning, ultimately expanding opportunities for learners in Bahrain.
Mr. H.B. Chao, Executive Director of the HKCAAVQ, welcomed the agreement, calling it a significant step in strengthening international cooperation in quality assurance and qualifications recognition. “This partnership facilitates the sharing of knowledge, enhances quality assurance systems, and boosts global recognition of academic and vocational qualifications,” he noted.
Through this collaboration, Bahrain and Hong Kong aim to ensure high standards in education and training, drive institutional improvement, and contribute positively to the global education landscape. The partnership also supports the international recognition of Bahrain’s National Qualifications Framework (NQF), providing greater mobility and opportunity for students and professionals alike.
