New eService Allows Bahrainis Overseas to Manage ID Cards Online
The Information & eGovernment Authority (iGA) has officially launched a new digital service enabling Bahraini citizens residing abroad to apply for the issuance, renewal, or replacement of their national ID cards through the national portal bahrain.bh.
Through this eService, citizens or their first-degree relatives can conveniently submit their applications online. Once processed, the ID cards can either be delivered internationally via Aramex courier or collected by an authorized person from the Identity Card Service Center in Isa Town, if preferred.
This initiative aims to streamline access to essential government services for Bahrainis living outside the Kingdom, making it easier to manage ID-related transactions remotely.
Enhancing Access to Government Services
Ms. Duaa Sultan Mohammed, iGA’s Deputy Chief Executive for Statistics and Population Registry, emphasized that the launch aligns with the authority’s commitment to enhancing digital services and improving accessibility for all citizens. She noted that the initiative is part of broader efforts guided by the directives of His Excellency General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, Minister of Interior and Chairman of the Ministerial Committee for Information and Communication Technology (MCICT).
“The new ID card eServices reflect our ongoing dedication to adopting advanced technologies to meet the needs of Bahraini citizens wherever they are,” said Ms. Duaa. “We aim to deliver high-quality, secure, and user-friendly solutions that simplify government procedures and elevate citizen satisfaction.”
New Features and Upgrades
The service is designed with strong security measures to verify submitted data and ensure smooth processing. In addition to the core ID services, the platform now includes the ability to:
-
Update residential addresses for Bahraini citizens aged 21 and above, especially in cases of divorce, with the address holder's electronic approval.
-
Add an organ donation icon on ID cards for individuals who opt to register as donors.
-
View enhanced identity card certificates, now featuring new data fields such as passport issuance date, cardholder signature, and ID card status.
Multiple requests can also be submitted within a single process, offering greater convenience and time-saving for users.
Commitment to Digital Transformation
This launch further underscores Bahrain’s leading role in digital transformation across the region, with iGA continuing to enhance its eGovernment offerings to align with global best practices.
Citizens are encouraged to explore and benefit from the full range of ID card services available through the national portal. For inquiries or assistance, they can contact the Government Services Contact Center at 80008001, or connect via the Tawasul system and the Tawasul App.
