An Arab man who memorised every line of a European passport that did not belong to him has been sentenced to a year in prison in Bahrain after immigration officers discovered the document was not his.
He will be deported once the sentence is served.
The man had passed through Saudi Arabia and reached Bahrain by road, making it as far as the departures area of Bahrain International Airport before things unravelled.
A scan of the passport drew attention. Within hours, he was in police custody.
