MP Hanan Fardan said a deal had been struck with Minister of Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture, His Excellency Wael Al Mubarak, to move a planned building project away from the Malkiya coast.
The original scheme, which involved a café and a number of kiosks, drew flak from locals and environmental campaigners.
She said the minister showed a welcome willingness to listen and adjust course, and described the meeting as an example of what happens when people are heard.
Fardan thanked the people of Malkiya and those campaigning to protect the shoreline, saying their calm but firm stand had helped steer the plan in a different direction.
The lawmakers added that people want the area to be improved in a way that keeps its character intact. She said she would continue to follow the matter to make sure any changes reflect the wishes of those who live nearby.
