An urgent proposal to halt the screening of the film Snow White in all cinemas across Bahrain has been backed by Parliament, citing the cast’s ties to Israel and the production company’s financial support for the Israeli state.
The proposal, tabled by MP Abdulwahid Abdulaziz Qarata and four others, was passed during Tuesday’s session. It now awaits action from the relevant authorities.
Steps
Qarata told the chamber that the request was focused on the government taking immediate steps to direct the concerned parties to remove the film from cinemas.
He said the push followed mounting public anger over films involving actors who support, or belong to, the Israeli state, and who have expressed support for the ongoing military assault on Palestinians in Gaza.
He added that the production company behind Snow White is known to back Israel financially, despite the “clear attacks on the lives of our Palestinian brothers”.
Duty “The Kingdom is part of both the Arab and Islamic worlds,” Qarata said, “and this proposal stems from our duty to support our brethren across both.”
