Filipinos in Bahrain rejoice at Miss Universe victory

Filipinos in Bahrain are celebrating the victory of their representative at the Miss Universe pageant, although the blunder by the presenter caused some upset.

For the first time in 42 years, a Philippines national was crowned Miss Universe.

The Filipino community in Bahrain believes that the crowning will go down as a great moment in their nation’s history, but it will always be tainted by the goof-up.

Albeit, they expressed their pride at the fact that Miss Philippines Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach came out as a deserved winner.

“It definitely took away some of the joy. The moment was lost because of it. I appreciate both the contestants. They were both very good. Miss Colombia was a great contestant. I was supporting her to finish as runner-up. But, obviously, I wanted Pia to win,” said Riz Revera.

Rosemary Rosales commended on Pia’s conduct. “Of course, we are very happy and delighted for Pia. But, from Miss Colombia’s perspective, it is awful. The moment they took the crown away from her was an awful scene. But I appreciate Pia for the way she dealt with it. She showed her class in the way she came on to receive the crown, she did not rush it, it was graceful.”

Rodrigo Torres said that the goof-up by the presenter Steve Harvey shouldn’t be getting so much attention.

“It was a mistake, and the best way to treat it is to forget about it and move on. Rather, we should give attention to Pia, who deservedly won the crown,” he said.

Pamela Casimiro said that talk about Pia ‘stealing’ the crown from Miss Colombia Ariadna Gutierrez makes no sense. “She was the deserved winner. Many people are very unhappy about it and saying that she stole it, which is unfair to her,” she said, adding, “of course, we are very proud that a representative of the Philippines has won it”.
