Black and White Chess Tournament opens tonight amidst chess fever in Bahrain

The Daily Tribune’s highly anticipated “Black and White” two-day Chess Tournament is set to commence this evening at the MC Indeez Auditorium in Mahooz, marking the start of a weekend filled with strategic battles on the board.
The opening event, the FIDE Rated Blitz tournament, will kick off at 6:00 PM tonight, Wednesday, April 30, 2025. The tournament has already generated significant excitement across Bahrain, witnessing an unprecedented surge in registrations that has far surpassed initial expectations.
Chess enthusiasts from all walks of life, ranging from seasoned veterans of the local chess scene to enthusiastic newcomers eager to test their skills, have signed up in large numbers.
Passion
This overwhelming response underscores the deep-seated passion for the intellectual board game within the Kingdom, with families, students, professionals, and retirees all eager to participate. Following tonight’s Blitz event, the action will continue tomorrow, Thursday, May 1st, starting at 9:00 AM, with a series of rapid tournaments catering to different age groups and skill levels.
These include the Kids Rapid (U10), Junior Rapid (U17), and another FIDE Rated Rapid tournament.
Prize pool
Participants will be vying for a total prize pool of $1,000 and an impressive tally of 54 prizes.
Organizers at The Daily Tribune, in collaboration with the Bahrain Chess Federation and Arjun Chess Academy, have expressed their delight at the enthusiastic reception.
