CP praises NIHR’s role in protecting human rights
Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander and First Deputy Prime Minister HRH Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, yesterday met the President of the National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR), Dr Abdulaziz Hassan Abul, at Gudabiya Palace.
The NIHR’s second annual report was issued recently and Dr Abul presented the report’s findings and recommendations to Prince Salman during the meeting.
HRH the Crown Prince emphasised that the Kingdom continually makes efforts to improve its laws and ensure that human rights are protected within the Kingdom, and stressed that Bahrain’s constitution and National Action Charter underpin the country’s efforts to safeguard individual rights and justice.
Prince Salman added that the commitment to protecting and promoting human rights was a key component of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa’s programme of reform and development.
HRH the Crown Prince and Dr Abul then discussed the findings and recommendations in the NIHR report, particularly the NIHR’s compliance with the Paris Principles, which relate to its protection of human rights.
Prince Salman hailed NIHR in advancing and protecting human rights within the Kingdom, and added the institution had been instrumental in strengthening ties between Bahrain and international human
rights institutions.
HRH the Crown Prince welcomed the wide-ranging work carried out by the NIHR, and stressed that the Kingdom remained committed to upholding internationally recognised standards to ensure individual rights were protected. Dr Abul emphasised that the ongoing support the institution receives plays a vital role in helping it meet its goals and objectives.
