Court upholds fine for caravan owner
The High Criminal Court has upheld fining a caravan owner here BD100 for pocketing the money of two women.
The victims are sisters and they reportedly wanted to perform Umrah. They went to the office of the local caravan and paid them BD340. But they later decided to withdraw it after they hadn’t felt comfortable in the bus that was assigned by the owner to carry the pilgrims to Mecca.
But the owner of the caravan paid them back BD240 only, and refused to give them back the full paid amount.
It’s said that he also threatened them in an attempt to make them give him the original receipt.
“In the receipt it was mentioned that we paid him BD340. But he gave us back only BD240 when we went to his office. He tried to threaten us to give him the original receipt by locking the door while we were inside the office. He told us that he would also report to the police that we had stolen the receipt from him,” one of the victims said.
“He started to shout at us, and we felt scared. Then we decided to give him the receipt and left,” she added.
He is said to have also caused injuries to one of the victims when she tried to open the door to leave the office of the caravan owner.
