Amnesty period rush at Indian Embassy subsides
The rush at the Indian Embassy by applicants hoping to utilise the amnesty period has subsided, an embassy official said on the sidelines of the Indian Embassy Open House held yesterday on the embassy premises in Adliya. Addressing the media representatives, Indian Embassy Deputy Chief of Mission Ram Singh said the rush has reduced considerably.
“Not many people are coming now, almost all cases have been resolved,” he said. The amnesty period began in July and will come to an end by the end of this month.
Responding to recent reports that various embassies were calling to extend the amnesty period, he said the Indian Embassy is not appealing for an extension.
“We are in touch with the people in the immigration but we have no information about this,” he added.
When asked if an extension is necessary, he said, “It is not a case of whether it is needed or not, it is up-to the Government of Bahrain.”
In September, the embassy was receiving over 100 applications a day as demand for availing the amnesty period was at its peak.
Singh was quoted as saying in September: “The last week was one of our busiest weeks since the amnesty period started. Though not consistent, we get about hundred application a day.”
“The open house yesterday saw relatively low participation and only six cases were discussed,” Singh added.
