‘Power subsidy removal won’t affect citizens’
The expected removal of electricity subsidy won’t have any impact on the livelihoods of citizens, MPs confirmed.
Speaking during a social gathering, Parliament’s Legislative and Legal Affairs Committee Head MP Ali Al Ateesh explained that “talks on the removal of electricity subsidy are being held between the Parliament and the Government,” informing that “no consensus has been reached yet.”
Al Ateesh also stressed that in the discussions, “MPs are keen on not harming the interests or livelihoods of citizens.”
This was stated during a social-parliamentary forum that was held at the Majlis (traditional meeting place) of Haj Majeed Tahir Binradhi in Barbar yesterday.
Attending the social activity from the Parliament were MPs Jamal Dawood, Jalal Kadhem and Ghazi Al Rahma, in addition to the council’s First Legal Consultant and Member of Parliament General Secretariat’s Social Communication Committee Ali Al Wida’ee.
The MPs gave the attendees a chance to take a closer look at their legislative work and answered their queries.
They also highlighted that the housing issue is one of their main concerns.
MP Jalal Kadhem discussed with the attendees the removal of meat subsidy decision that was recently implemented by the government.
He supported the decision justifying that “there are no countries that provide financial support to meat products,” adding that implementing such decisions is a necessity at this stage to reduce the expenditures of the State’s public, considering the current economic circumstances.
The meeting was organised by Parliament General Secretariat’s Social Communication Committee, aiming to strengthen relations between the parliament and the people of Bahrain.
The committee organised similar activities during the past few months at schools, Ministries, universities and social centres.
