Job scam: Jail term reduced

The Supreme Appeals Court has reduced the jail sentence of a Bahraini man convicted of human trafficking. He was earlier handed down five years in jail, but the Court has reduced it to three years on appeal. Another Asian man was earlier held guilty in connection with the case, and was given five years in prison. But he is still at large and was convicted in absentia. It was claimed that the duo had sold 100 work permits to expat jobseekers with the promise that they would be employed upon landing in the Kingdom.

Each work permit was reportedly sold at an amount ranging between BD500 and BD1000. The victims were reportedly left jobless and without accommodation upon their arrival in the Kingdom.
