Couple in the dock for forgery

Closing arguments will be heard on January 18 in the trial of a couple accused of fraud and forgery.

The accused allegedly attempted to purchase mobile phones using counterfeit Saudi riyals.

The man was reportedly the mastermind of the scheme, while the woman helped him legalise the cash by buying mobile phones and selling them later.

Mobile phone shops owners said the woman, who was wearing a Muslim full-face veil, paid them fake Saudi currency.

According to court files, extensive investigations had been launched to nab her, and detectives learnt that she was being helped by two men, including the male accused and a BDF officer.

Standing trial separately in a military court, the officer’s role was allegedly to import the currency from Saudi Arabia.
