Man gets life term in bombing case
The High Criminal Court has slapped a Bahraini defendant with life imprisonment for detonating a bomb in a petrol station restroom. Two policemen were injured by an improvised explosive that was detonated at Jawaf Services Station in Meqsha on February 1.
A device exploded when the two officers entered the restroom and a supermarket employee on-duty at the time said he was just a few metres away when he heard the blast and saw smoke.
The Interior Ministry branded the incident as a terrorist bombing as the victims were badly wounded. A second defendant was tried in connection with the case, but he was given only three years in prison. His charge was that he failed to inform the police officers about the incident, despite his awareness of it.
Prosecutors said that they established their charges against the defendants based on witnesses’ statements, technical reports and security cameras’ footages.
