Woman’s appeal rejected

The High Criminal Appeals Court has rejected the appeal of a Bahraini woman convicted of drug abuse.

The 25-year-old woman was earlier given six months in jail for using hashish and heroin. She was caught after being taken to hospital in an unconscious state.

Her saliva contained traces of hashish and heroin when she underwent a drug test.

According to court files, the woman was three months pregnant when she fainted. She told the prosecutors that she injected an overdose of heroin and lost consciousness.

She admitted that she had been a drug addict for almost eight years and was taking treatment at a mental hospital.

The woman was also fined BD100 for her crime.

She was earlier granted bail for BD500, pending the outcome of her appeal.
