Three-year jail for teenagers
The High Criminal Court has sentenced two teenage defendants to three years in prison each for attacking a policeman as well as taking part in a riot.
The duo is said to have pelted oil bottles at a group of officers, who were on foot patrol in Manama on April 13 this year.
An officer suffered an injury to his left eye and another’s uniform got damaged. The first defendant, aged 16, was captured after the incident immediately, but his 15-year-old co-defendant denied to judges at the High Criminal Court his involvement to the attack.
He said that he was in the area, where the incident took place, on his bike and there were no riots. But he admitted to being assigned by rioters to survey the area. The pair has been charged with attacking on duty police officers, and damaging the uniform of his colleague.
Sentenced for burning tyres
In another case, the High Criminal Court has sentenced 12 defendants to three years behind bars for burning tyres in Salmabad. The defendants reportedly poured oil on the street in a bid to putting the lives of motorcyclists in danger. They have been convicted of arson and disturbing the public order.
