Park project delayed due to airport works

The public park project in Muharraq has been delayed due to the ongoing expansion works at Bahrain International Airport.

This was disclosed by Works, Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning Minister Essam Khalaf during the weekly Parliament meeting yesterday.

The minister clarified that the infrastructural development of the Al Kubra Garden contradicted the ongoing expansion project of Bahrain International Airport (BIA) that is being carried out by the Transportation and Telecommunication Ministry.

Khalaf’s statements came in reply to MP Ibrahim Al Hammadi, the representative of the area, in regards to the progress of the prolonged project.

The minister also clarified that there is a legal dispute in the progress between the government and the developer of the project.

On his part, Al Hammadi crticised how the project is being disregarded for around 10 years, underlining the importance of the project to the people of Muharraq.

However, the minister stated that “it’s possible to award the tender of the project to a new developer soon,” adding that more documents are expected to provided by the Municipalities Affairs about the infrastructure of the garden.”
