Expat’s first book release tomorrow

Bahrain-based Indian actress and writer Jaya Menon’s debut novel Bramakalpanakal will be released in the Kingdom on Friday (Jan 8) at the venue of Bahrain Keraleeya Samajam-DC Books International Book Fair and Cultural Fest, which will be held from today till January 16. 

The book in Malayalam will be released by Indian film actor and director Madhupal. 

Jaya, who is currently employed with J.P Morgan Chase, was selected as the first winner of the Pravasi Kalashree Award for non-resident artists, who have excelled in various fields by the Kerala Sangeetha Nataka Academy. 

Jaya, who is leading an expat life in the Kingdom since 1973, has performed on stage since the age of four, and has received the Best Actress Award from the Bahrain Keraleeya Samajam three times. 

She performed in various Malayalam films, including acclaimed Ritu in 2009, directed by veteran director Shyamaprasad. Jaya is famous among expatriate Indians living in the Gulf countries for her drama acting career. 

She is also a critically acclaimed director and choreographer for hundreds of plays, and dozens of shows. She is married to Prakash Vatakara, who won Kalashri Awards for 2015 for non-resident Keralite artists, and has two sons, Arun and Rishi. 

Inauguration of the Book Fair and Cultural Fest will be held today at 8pm by M. Mukundan, one of the pioneers of modernity in Malayalam literature.

The book lovers of Bahrain will be feasted to a wide range of literary works from the catalogues of major English and Malayalam publishers like Penguin, Harper Collins, Hachette, Scholastic, Oxford University Press, DC Books, Olive, Current Books, Sankeerthanam, Mathrubhumi, Malayala Manorama and many more. The Book Fair will have a variety of titles for the book lovers to choose from.
