Default of fine: 19-year-old sent to prison

An Asian teenager was sentenced to six months in prison yesterday after she failed to settle a fine imposed on her on account of causing a traffic accident.

The 19-year-old girl reportedly crashed her friend’s car into two vehicles, before ramming it into the wall of a house on October 23 last year.

The woman was taken to hospital by a Gulf national as she was bleeding from her head. She was found to be in an inebriated state, and police officers were later notified about her.

The teenager was tried on grounds of causing damage to the public and the private properties, drunk driving, driving without a license and careless driving. She was fined BD1600, but her inability to settle the fine saw her yesterday being imprisoned.
