Pongal celebrations on Jan 15 at Indian Club

Bharati Association, in co-ordination with the Indian Club, is celebrating its grand gala annual event Pongal, the harvest festival, on the Indian Club premises, in Manama on January 15.

Pongal is the cultural and heritage celebration of the South Indian State of Tamil Nadu. Today, Pongal has become a vibrant festival with a global presence celebrated with much amusement by Tamilians all around the world.

 This year, the harvest festival will be celebrated with the same vigour and enthusiasm as in homeland with plenty of added entertainment. 

Kolam decorations, adventurous sports and games activities will be in the morning session, starting from 10.30 am followed by cultural dances.

Ambassador of India Alok Kumar Sinha will inaugurate the Pongal rituals.

At noon, the traditional Pongal feast will be served to members, guests, well-wishers and invitees.

The evening session will start at 6.30pm with an inspiring dialogue to be delivered by literary scholar Prof. Dr Parveen Sultana, followed by a speech by documentary film director and writer Saron P. Sethil Kumar.  

The depth and uniqueness of the classical Tamil language will be the highlight of the speeches. A documentary film on the life of famous lyricist Pattukkotai Kalyanasundaram will be screened during the event. 

Entry for the evening programme is free, but seats preference will be given on first come first basis.
