Tourism sector has more expat workers

About 82 per cent of the employees working in the tourism sector are expats, revealed Industry, Commerce and Tourism Minister Zayed bin Rashid Al Zayani recently.

He also confirmed that only seven establishments in Bahrain obtained licenses for tourism businesses.

The Minister said 159 non-Bahrainis are now working in the tourism field, compared to 28 Bahrainis employed in the same sector.

He also highlighted the tourism movement in Bahrain, clarifying that 61, 000 tourists visited the country via tourism cruise ships in the country’s 2014 – 2015 cruise ship season, a rise of 62 per cent from the number of visitors in the  previous season.

The Minister’s statements will be discussed under the dome of the House of Representatives on Tuesday, as MPs will discuss with him the situation of the tourism sector in Bahrain.
