Arrest warrant against witnesses

Arrest warrants have been issued against two witnesses, who failed to appear in the courtroom to give evidence in the trial of two men accused of robbery.

The duo has been implicated in the case of stealing an air conditioning unit, according to court files.

The device was robbed from a house in Isa Town, where Asian labourers are residing. It is said that they sold the unit to a scrap store for BD18 by using a fake ID.

Investigations revealed the identity of the two defendants, but the first accused, aged 37, denied his involvement in the robbery.

He told prosecutors that he was asked by his co-defendant to help him to transport the unit to a repair shop.

He, however, admitted to receiving BD9 from him after dropping the unit to the scrap store.  The defendants earlier appeared before the High Criminal Court, where they pleaded not guilty to theft and fraud charges.
