Drag Racing Back in Action
The spotlight returns to the drag strip this week at Bahrain International Circuit (BIC) in Sakhir, with the third round of the Bahrain Drag Racing Championship roaring into action from tomorrow to Friday.
The meeting marks the midway point of the 2015/2016 season and participants from all across the Gulf and beyond are expected to compete.
Action gets underway on Tuesday and Wednesday with back-to-nights of Test and Tune from 7pm to 11pm. Qualifying will then be held on Thursday, to be followed by all the head-to-head racing on Friday. Action begins from 4pm onwards both days.
The meeting has been organised by the Bahrain Drag Racing Club in cooperation with BIC and the Bahrain Motor Federation.
Racing will be held along BIC’s world-class quarter-mile drag strip. It is a member of the prestigious National Hot Rod Association (NHRA) Worldwide Network, allowing BIC to fly its drag racing events under the globally renowned NHRA banner.
Participants will be battling it out this week in 14 different categories, including 10 for cars and four for motorbikes. The cars categories include the Street 4 and 6, the Outlaw Front-Wheel-Drive (FWD), the Super Street 6-Cylinder, the Outlaw 6-Cylinder, the Street V8, the Super Street V8, the Competition 4.5, the Outlaw 10.5, the Pro Mod and the Index 10.5. The bikes classes include the Street Bike, Super Street Bike, Pro Bike and the Index Bike 9.5.
Meanwhile, taking place on the sidelines of all the action will be BIC’s Dragster Xperience – one of the circuit’s most sought-after public activities. Clients get into one of BIC’s three-seater Top Dragsters for a run down the quarter-mile strip in mind-boggling speed, powering from zero to 100kph in just one second. The Dragster Xperience costs BD40 per person and the activity can be done at any time during the upcoming meeting.
Following the upcoming round, the season’s fourth meeting takes place from February 23 to 26 and then round five, the season finale, will be held from March 1 to 4.
