MPs disappointed at new gasoline prices

Following the sudden announcement of the new gasoline prices, several MPs conveyed their irritation and disappointment of the government’s “one-sided decision”.

They expressed their rejection to the decision through social media networks and press statement, demanding the government to reconsider its decision and discuss with the representatives of the people of Bahrain before implementing them.

A 12-member committee was formed by the Council of Representatives to discuss with the representatives of the government the redirection and removal of subsidies. They discussed the meat, electricity, diesel, kerosene and water subsidies during the previous few months.

DT News was informed that MPs slowly withdrew from the committee as they claimed that they were not shown sufficient cooperation from the government, who they accused of taking unilateral decisions without discussing with the council.

Rush at petrol pumps

Meanwhile, scores of citizens and residents flocked to petrol pumps to benefit from the subsidised gasoline that is sold for 100 and 80 fils. Long queues of vehicles were lined up at petrol service stations across Bahrain, causing heavy traffic congestions in some areas.
