Rioters handed jail terms

Eleven defendants accused on grounds of rioting have been jailed.

Six of the were handed down five years in prison each, while the rest were given three years behind bars each.

The accused are said to have rioted in Karanna and set tyres ablaze in Budaiya Highway on September 23 in 2014.

The accused have been nabbed after police investigations found they were implicated with the events.

The first defendant is said to have led police to tools used in rioting such as tyres and petrol bottles as well as a fire extinguisher. Four of the accused are below 18 years of age.

The eleven suspects were charged with arson, putting lives and properties in danger and participating in an illegal gathering.
