Bahrain may soon implement fingerprint and eye scanners

Bahrain may soon get fingerprint and eyeprint scanning systems at all entry points.

The project aims to prevent terrorists from entering Bahrain and ensure that blacklisted individuals will not be able to re-enter after changing their details and identities.

Presenter of the proposal, MP Abdulla Binhowail said, “The new system would contribute in achieving security in the Kingdom and would be in line with the vision of Bahrain 2030. It would also serve the aspirations of the visitors and the people of Bahrain in providing a safe and secured environment.”

Binhowail suggested that the new system should be implemented in cooperation with the Labour Market Regulatory Authority (LMRA). He stressed that it should be utilised in all entry points of the country, including Bahrain International Airport, King Fahd Causeway, Khalifa bin Salman Port and Salman Port.

The MP demanded Interior Ministry to look into the matter and seek implementing the new security system to further protect Bahrain from foreign threats.

He also suggested that the ministry creates a database of fingerprints and eyeprints to facilitate security, criminal and civil purposes, at the same time to prevent the entry and re-entry of terrorists and blacklisted individuals.

The proposal was submitted to Parliament’s Foreign Affairs, Defence and National Security Committee, which referred it to the concerned authorities, including Interior Ministry, for further discussion.
