One of the main road projects in 2016 was inaugurated yesterday in the Capital.

Works, Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning Minister Essam Khalaf inaugurated the first phase of Juffair ring road project, in the presence of Capital Governorate Governor Shaikh Hesham bin Abdulrahman Al Khalifa and a number of parliamentary and municipal representatives of the capital.

Ahead of officially opening the BD2, 057, 000 project, the minister and the accompanying officials and dignitaries were escorted by a group of local motorcyclists “Bahrain Shabaab Riders” on a ride around the new road.

Then, the minister pushed the button, switching on the new traffic signals on the road, at the same time when 60 coloured doves were released in the sky, as a symbol of peace and the different nationalities visiting Juffair, being the first tourism destination in the Kingdom.

Minister Khalaf highlighted the importance of the new road, explaining that the quick competition of the first stage comes to keep up with the civil growth that the area is witnessing.

He assured that the new entrance to Juffair would lessen the existing traffic congestions and pressures on the other entrances of Juffair, being the fourth entrance to the area.

Khalaf stated, “Phase 1 of Juffair Ring Road project comprises of a dual road with two lanes on each direction, extending from the interchange of Al Fateh Highway and Sheikh Duaij Avenue on the West to Al Najma Club on the East at a total length of 4.5km. It will increase the capacity of the area to 4000 cars, after it was only 2500.”

The minister added, “The project adds to the string of landmark projects opened recently by the ministry, including the flyover of the second interchange along the Shaikh Khalifa bin Salman Highway and the road linking Roundabouts 13-18 in Hamad Town, in addition to the Muharraq Ring Road Project, with a total cost of more than USD33 million. The projects aim to spur the national economy and develop the kingdom’s infrastructure.”
