Truck carrying liquor turns turtle in Gujarat village, locals flee with bottles

It was a field day for some in 'dry' state of Gujarat as a small truck carrying liquor bottles met with an accident and turned turtle.

The news of the accident spread like a wild fire in Samarvada village of Dhanera taluka of Gujarat's Banaskantha district.

Within minutes, locals rushed to the spot in large numbers and looted all the stock of liquor and beer.

Each of them carried as much as they could lay their hands on.

By the time the police reached the spot nothing was left except some broken bottles and the abandoned vehicle.

The driver of the truck also fled the spot before the police arrived.

In Gujarat, consumption and sale of liquor is legally banned.

However, the ban has failed to deter the bootleggers' activity in the state.

In Banaskantha district, the bootleggers even offer home delivery options.

If sources are to be believed, liquor is sold openly close to the town police post of Dhanera.
