Woman’s appeal in defamation case rejected

A 49-year-old defendant, who was held guilty in a defamation case, has had her appeal rejected.

Ghada Jamsheer was earlier sentenced one year and two months for defaming King Hamad Hospital chief as well as an employee in the same hospital, but the appeals court commuted her jail time to only four months.

Jamsheer is said to have libelled the two on the social media platform, distributing lies and false accusations against them.

The defendant allegedly accused the hospital chief of wasting public funds, as well as went on to throw light on his family and married life in 2014. She also posted offensive tweets against the employee. The 49-year-old was also ordered to pay BD5,000 in compensation for the chief as a temporary compensation.
